Tuesday, July 22, 2025 - SNI full day number two
It was the noodles and potatoes and bananas that hit the spot with coffee latte this morning at our Rembrandt hotel. Our driver deliveredus seven to the conference hotel soon after 8 am, before the other 100 attendees had finished their breakfast. The surroundings outside the large were there to be admired, and I had time to do that.
Our two plenary sessions were fabulous. The first speaker described her work for school health in the 37 countries of the WHO western region. Her presentation was lively as she described her work with schools to promote healthy school environments and communities. The second speaker was a school doctor. He came costumed as he stated he often does when he is at schools. He stressed the importance of the collaboration of the school doctor, the school yogo teacher, and the school nurse. The yogo teacher is a health teacher who may provide first aid and who collaborates with the nurse and doctor on school health concerns. His presentation was lively, humorous, and memorable.
The next two hours we chose six short oral presentations from attedees on some aspect of their work: policy, clinical care, specialized care, and special programs/studies. I am proud of the commitments, innovations, and enthusiasm in my profession.
We were given a Bento box with a cutlet sandwich and vegetables for lunch and soon were ushered on a bus for an afternoon sightseeing tour of the Gotemba environs. Our guide was an older woman who spoke only Japanese and whose translation by a member of the conference leadership team is minimal. Nevertheless we visited a Shinto shrine by learning how to approach it with respect as well as appreciating the campus environment. We drove then to a lovely city park with lake and stream, wooden walkway, and forested paths. It was peaceful. A small waterfalls was created by rocks placed in the center of a round frame.
We drove even further for supper at a rural restaurant where fish and tempura were offered in many forms. I enjoyed seaweed, noodles, tea, and a small piece of layer cake. Thanks to my three dinner companions sharing was the way we all enjoyed the meal. I learned on the bus ride enroute back to the conference hotel that my seat companoon from Sweden also ate no fish tonight. She also told me about their family cottage on a lake which they visit as often as possible when they can bring water from the lake. April to November. She showed me photos of the streaming northern lights viewed from their hot tub at the lake's edge as well of her of herself in the minus 21 degrees Celsius water January 1 after they cut a hole in the lake ice.
It is now that I feel comfortable sharing stories and laughing wigh5mg new friends, and tomorrow is our final full conference day. As our group of Rembrandt hotel seven waited for our shuttle we explored jumping fitness and decided to follow some Japanese school opening exxcises as we await the first session tomorrow. We Rembrandt seven decided to exchange contact information and take a group photo tomorrow morning. Sad it is that we will be parting soon.
