Sunday, July 13, 2025 - Travel Day to Kyoto
We selected breakfast items and picked up some requested items for Kenji rom the grocery store across the street. Karin had already started a load of laundry while I was still asleep. In our room we ate our purchases. I had a banana, a small bag of shelled edamame, and half a ham, cheese and llettuce. It was p,enty to hold me over four our 1130 reservation at a shabu ahabu restaurant. Karin had researched inexpensive shabu shabu restaurants and found this one out of the main touristy areas and in a metro mall.
This meal had many parts: a choice of broth which is simmered on a burner at the table. On c houses a meat and how much eat. One chooses two dipping sauces and what kind of rice, oh yes. The. There was a large bowl of fresh vegetables some of which I didn't recognize. I put them and the meat into the simmering broth. With spoons to stir the ingredients there were lots of things on the table. The meal was delicious, super delicious!
Back at the hotel we traveled to the Osaka train station n by uber. that was simple. What wasn't simple was locating the correct track for the train to Kyoto. After one mis-turn Kenji guided us to the correct train. It was hot and humid, and felt it then. The train was cool, and there were several stops which allowed me to enjoy the cityscape the entire distance. I did see some small gardens and lots of electric wires around the trains and tracks.
In Kyoto Kenji guided us walking to our hotel. He has a good sense of direction. Our room is very small, and panna cottawe step up to enter the bathroom. What a change this is from our hotel in Osaka! We cooled down a bit and enjoyed watching sumo wrestling match with some of the crermony around the event. It was fascinating. When we met Kenji and Leo and left the hotel there was a mild rain. Using hotel-providerdf umbrellas we walked to a local Italian restaurant. We walked up to the third storey to our table and shared salad and pizza, and burrata, and pasta carbonara, and pIt was fun, and we felt cooled and relaxed. After supper we walked around the area and saw the very modern train station and very tall Kyoto tower, and, of course we investiged the local Lawson and 7 Eleven for ideas for our breakfast romorrow.
Back in our room we enjoyed watching girls volleyball match - Japan vs Brazil and the end of another Tigers vsd Yakult baseball team game. Each day has a different feel.
