Saturday, July 5, 2025 - Tokyo

Karin and I went to bed Friday watching a newscast about residents being evacuated from a very small Japanese island near Okinawa, following an earthquake the day earlier. Saturday morning we watched a forecast of higher temps with little rain and a bit more about recent earthquakes on the outer islands, and we enjoyed our coffee and banana while listening to Japanese. Perhaps it will seep into our brains to help us understand more?

With Leo Karin and I went to the nearby Family Mart to purchase additional breakfast food for the four of us to enjoy in our room. We ate and enjoyed relaxed conversations about the plans for today and train reservations for next week Tuesday to Osaka.

We then took two metro lines to the location of the digital Team Lab light show. For more than two hours we wandered in rooms large and small and corridors. Sights were flowers, figures, curved lines, abstract drawings,  birds butterflies, fish,  and small animals all moving on the walls and under our feet. Colors were brilliant and soothing music accompanied the wonderful sights. Additionally there was a room in which we walked among lily pads made of a plastic like  material and supported on flexible stems on which colorful lights moved as we walked among them. There was also a room with hanging lights which played colorful patterns as well as a room with the effects of rain through lighting. The title of the show is Boundless, expressing the message that there are now boundaries in our world.  It was amazing and peaceful and happy experience.

Karin and I returned to the hotel to cool down and grab lunch food in the local grocery story in the metro station. We had forgotten to obtain eating implements, but we found spoons in the hotel room which sufficed.  The guys went to a cafe in an area where there are several electronics stores. Kenji sent us a photo of Leo cooking his food at the table.

After naps and cooling ankles and knees we four took the metro to the city government area for alight show on one very tall building in downtown Tokyo. One light show pictured pac man eating Tokyo and another showed Godzilla attacking Tokyo. The light show was colorful and active and creative.

We took the metro back to the hotel stopping at a local Family Mart to pick up a snack and breakfast food for tomorrow: bananas, cafe au lait, and a hamburger. Karin and I had researched an English-speaking Anglican church and found one near the cathedral. So, hopefully, we will attend a service tomorrow morning.
