Friday, July 18, 2025 - Hiroshima

Wehad a late and slow start to the day. Our 16th floor hotel window was covered with raindrops. We had already purchased our breakfast yesterday at a 7 Eleven. I enoyed a cold coffee large, edamame, and a banana. I think of Ranie whenever I eat a banana.

The city bus ride into the center of the city is about 30 minutes. It was crowded immediately and continued to accept passengers at following stops. It was a relief to get off. We crossed a street by taking  down an elevator at the street corner. Underground was not only one walkway but several with signs to different destinations but also shops. Karin and Kenji found the correct exit for the building with the tower view of the city. With tickets that Kenji had purchased online we took the elevator to the 13th floor.  There we walked up and then down a wooden slope to the open air edge of the building. We looked directly down at the A Bomb Dome and the peace park, monuments and museum. We spent quite a while viewing the two rivers that come together and which was the destination of the atom bomb on August 6, 1945. City building are of varying heights, designs, and neutral shades. They seem very close together and face a variety of directions. That see s common all over the city.

We stopped for a mid afternoon lunch in a soba noodle restaurant in one of the shops u der the street crossing. My broth was mild, and ginger slices and a pickled plum decorated  the soip bowl. We were provided with a wooden soup spoon in addition to chop sticks.

Leo and Kenji left us looking for more shops that carry dispenser machines of little decorations for backpacks and purses. They are seen often hanging on chains. Karin andI watched people as we had a relatively long wait for the bus back to the hotel. After a 30 minute ride it was already after 4 pm. We read and dozed.

Kenji and Leo brought us supper snacks from 7 Eleven. I enoyed a bag of edamame and a bag of popcorn.  Karin and Kenji went out for a drink and enjoyed some local fireworks from the top floor of the hotel.

Although it was supposed to rain today it was only cloudy and less warm than on previous days.
