A fabulous buffet breakfast in the level below ground level and in the patio was a super start to a sunny and very warm walking tour of city center and Old Town with Jola (Yola). Buildings Jola and Agneshka are large and heavy-appearing and many have spires. We visited the church where Chopin's heart is preserved, we walked by one of the universities, by the conservatory of music where a couple students were outside playing for contributions. Public university tuition is free in Poland. We walked along the Royal Way, a long pedestrian boulevard on weekends, past the presidential residence and any outdoor cafes.

After receiving weekend transportation tickets and city maps and answers to questions regarding directions back to the hotel as well as to nearby near-by places to visit four of us decided to have some food at one of the many outdoor cafes in Market Square. I ordered cold Lithuanian soip with egg and dill having never tasted it before. It was the color of beets with slices of beets, radishes, and cucumber and sprigs of dill. It was delicious.

We walked tobthe museum honoring Warsaw native and two-time Nobel Prize winner : physics and chemistry Marie Curie. With her husband she wone the Nobel in physics. She had children and who were physicians, Nobel Prize winners, and married Nobel Prize winners. She had to study in France for her science degree. She discovered radium and named it after her home country, Palonium.

We also visited the cold War museum where photos, audio messages, and written history were both very familiar and new, i.e. the role of a very brave Polish military person who disagreed with the the Soviet repression in Poland and shared information regarding Soviet plans to start WW III! We lingered and talked with the young man at the entrance desk.

We walked to a recommended restaurant along the Royal Way. I had sour rye doip which was delicious as well as a cool fruit beverage.

Back at the hotel I inquired if I might join tbe audience in the salon for the nightly concert of Chopin music. And even though the recital of piano music had begun I was welcomed in to listen to Chopin played by a visiting artist.

This was a perfect conclusion to a day of varied experiences.
