Monday, August 14 - Another Beautiful Day in Dublin
Again we began the day later than our days on tour. We walked south again, crossed the River Liffey. Crowds were all around. Premilla read the local map very well and led us toward the Museum of Archaeology. As it didn't open until later we stopped for breakfast in a small Cafe. Sitting on high stools at a counter we leisurely enjoyed some warm food, especially an hot chocolate for Premilla. She stated we were very near our first tour hotel and to the restaurant where we had our first tour group supper. She stated she remembers what she ate, that it was delicious, and that she would like to eat there again gor our final supper together. That was fine with me, and we made reservations.
The Museum of Archaeology holds a huge collection of tools and human bones and pieces of daily life from life on the island from BC times. Indications are that digging continues around the country to piece together what is known of the earliest residents. Striking were very thin pieces of gold, bent to wear as collars. The stone age and iron age remnants were displayed creatively an kept us attentive for over two hours. We knew we couldn't purchase any more souvenirs, even though the museum store enticed us.
Premilka knew where we were and how to get to St, Patrick's Anglican Cathedral for choral Evensong. I am very impressed with her sense of direction. We had time to enjoy the day and watch people in the cathedral park, too - a perfect way to unwind and relax.
Choral Evensong was sung in the nave. A Stewart closed the wooden door to our pew. The liturgy again was generic and covered in plastic. The choir was visiting the week from St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Valley Forge, PA. They were good, with around 25 members. We heard the impressive organ at this service, too.
Premilla led us to the special restaurant without any difficulties, and she enjoyed her remembered favorite of seafood linguini. I loved the mushroom ravioli covered with walnut pieces and truffle oil. Thus was a perfect end to our time together.
Watching local news while packing helped ease me into the next day and travel mode.
