RainyDublin, July 31

The day began cloudy, and by the time we gathered for our guided walk of the city center it was sprinkling.  Throughout the next three hours we learned about the history of this island from our local guide,  Stephen. He was a walking Irish history library.  It sprinkled and rained off and on as well was windy. After confirming directions Premilla and I walked across the O'Connell Street Bridge over the River Liffey; this river divides the city North from South.  We arrived at the Museum of Emigration for which I purchased tickets online last night. A very kind gentleman at the information desk printed a paper tickets for us and showed mewhere to enter the exhibit. In each of the 17 rooms a different related town aspect of emigration; the many reasons why, depending othe year, who, where to, the experiences of leaving and of the travel, the travel means, etc. It was interactive involving the guest. There was also an exhibit of JFK's visit to cities and towns and...

DUBLIN, July 30

We awakened earlier than planned feeling warm and rested. It is sunny with clouds as was yesterday. It’s the wind which has taken us by surprise. We checked out, left our luggage and headed for the French bakers which we discovered yesterday. Our breakfast was elegant: Croque Monsieur sandwich with ham and cheese. It was presented in circular sandwich form. My flat white coffee had a floral design on the surface, snd Premilla's jot chocolate was thick.   Would you believe that we were turned away from worshiping at St. Patrick's Anglican Cathedral because it was filled?  That's a first for me. So, we walked about 5-10 minutes to Christ Church Anglican cathedral.  We came inlate, during the sermon. The T-coil system didn’t seem to be working so I read the lessons from the leaflet while she, yes, she preached.  It felt so good to participate in a familiar worship form. I spoke to another female priest after the service and told her that today is the 49th celebrat...

DUBLIN July 28 and 29, 2023

Premilla and I departed LA on Aer Lingus Friday evening July 28, and after a largely turbulent flight and some sleep and no breakfast we landed an hour early. Then the Irish adventure began.    Our taxi driver began talking with us about wher we came from, his family and stories about places we drove by. We feel we know a lot about him, even though we don't know his name. This was a delightful introduction to Ireland.    After checking in and freshening up we requested and received a map and guidance for reaching places to eat and shop as well as St. Stephen's Green. It was sunny, cool, and windy and manageable with sweaters.    It took a while to find a place to eat Irish food. The shopping mall had international foods in its food court, we tried a pub and seated ourselves by a very helpful Katherine who told us to order at the bar. My shortness was a disadvantage as the tall guys around me attracted the attention of the bar tender before I. I waves ...
