Wednesday with an Oops in Wermelskirchen July 6, 2022
The homemade muesli breakfast involves chewing which I thoroughly enjoy. Today fresh strawberries and blueberries graced the muesli.
It was cool and off and on clouds and sun. Anja worked to complete a multi-page form application for unemployment. She had told me a few days ago that her income from her health coverage had ended as she had been covered and paid for 18 months.
When the forms had been completed and copied she put them two a large blue envelope. We then left for the local offices to leave the forms in person and receive a printed receipt, proof that the the office had received her application. She stated that if she had gone to the office in Remscheid she would have had to wait in a long line - one more reason she likes Wermelskirchen better than Remscheid. I am happy that she is happy with her new hometown. We then did go to Remscheid to a garden shop which she likes and has visited often. We purchased a bouquet of mainly yellow flowers to place in a vase which is at her mother's graveside. We went then to the cemetery and Naila knew the way. Anja placed the new bouquet, and we remained a few minutes, and she said she would smoke a cigarette with her mother. We walked around the cemetery. For some reason Naila seemed eager to be loose and chase some creature which she sensed was around. Anja then changed the leash from long to short. On our way out we walked by and stopped and looked at the graves of soldiers from both World Wars. They appeared cared for.
Herbert stayed at home and used an attachment to the vacuum cleaner to wash and dry the tile floor in the kitchen and living area. When we arrived home we marveled at the very clean floor.
Anj and I did more gardening, trimming, cleaning up and transplanting a zucinni away from the clutch of snails.
Their former neighbor Petra came to visit with her dog Paul. Champagne and coffee and Herbert's homemade vanilla chocolate cake added to our lively conversation. We also took a short walk in the neighborhood with both dogs. In her car Paul sits on the passenger seat floor.
After fond goodbyes Anja and I were in the garden because it was such a beautiful day. Then I made a huge mistake. Anja asked me to cut chives, but I cut lettuce and I cut it the wrong way. We had a good laugh, I was reminded of the word for chives and shown the correct way to cut lettuce. Now we have lettuce for Thursday's supper with Karin.
Supper was the other half of the chard quiche and a salad from the garden with homemade dressing, and sitting outside on the terrace makes the meal even more delicious.
We talked, WhatsApped with Karin and also with Kenji. We watched the end of today's Tour de France and looked at the map of Europe where the cyclists will be racing. Today they are on the continent on the Belgium/Netherlands border. We also watched the European women's soccer championship first match, held in Manchester England. The home national team defeated the Austrian team. Players on both teams were fierce.
It was 1100, and we said good night. I plugged in my cellphone, known here and from now on as a Handy to bring the battery more charge. I dozed off and on keeping in touch with Karin during her process at LAX. I fell asleep after she let me know that she was on the plane.
Fly safely, Karin
